PowerlandMap market intelligence

Data centers and power, in context

PowerlandMap helps you compare country markets, distinguish operating assets from projects in the pipeline and assess sites against sourced evidence.

Explore country markets

This map shows the coverage recorded by PowerlandMap in each market. You can compare data center, generation and electricity network records for a country before requesting access to the detailed evidence.

Countries are shaded by published data center sites. Select a country for stages and documented capacity.

The country map is loading.

The selection contains 7,491 sites across 176 countries. Of these records, 7,345 are represented on the map.

The map shows country totals and broad areas, not individual asset locations. Coverage varies, and published capacity is not available capacity. The snapshot was calculated on 26 Oct, 08:47 UTC.

Source, scope and calculation time

The same published, publicly verified, non-demo supply snapshot powers Coverage and the homepage. Other and unclassified statuses stay separate from active stages. Sourced IT MW exclude modelled estimates. Country boundaries are Natural Earth 1:110m cartography (public domain), used for geography only. No connection or available capacity is implied.

See the site example for separate public site evidence.

Electricity infrastructure coverage

The energy context behind your next site

Generation records and mapped network infrastructure help you assess the context around a site and identify the questions that need verification by the operator.

Inspect energy coverage
Generation records
119,591
Generation records cover 162 countries.
The dataset covers generating units and includes some records that represent an entire plant. The total therefore does not represent a count of distinct power plants.
Mapped substation records
261,994
The network datasets cover 161 countries.
These records show mapped substations and provide context for assessing the surrounding electricity network. They do not constitute a certified inventory of all substations.
Mapped line segments
855,719
The network datasets cover 161 countries.
This total counts individual mapped line segments. It does not represent a count of complete electrical circuits or indicate available grid capacity.

These figures were calculated on 26 Oct 2026 at 08:47 UTC.

Mapped infrastructure and generation capacity do not certify available grid connections. Connection capacity, delivery timing and conditions must be verified with the operator. Network geometry includes attributed open mapping. Source scope and completeness vary.

Select a market or site

Compare countries on the same capacity basis, then review a site's stage, sources and mapped grid context. Proximity does not prove a connection.

Understand what it costs to build, run and equip

We calculate construction, energy and AI equipment costs separately, using the appropriate unit for each. The examples below show how the calculations work on simple numbers.

This example illustrates the calculation and is not a market quotation.

Facility construction CAPEX

This example breaks down the construction cost per MW IT for a 40 MW IT facility by work package.

€10.0m per MW IT, giving €400.0m in total.

Facility construction cost per MW IT by work package, € million
  • Electrical systems€4.0m / MW IT
  • Cooling and mechanical€2.6m / MW IT
  • Building shell and core€2.0m / MW IT
  • Fit-out, fees and contingency€1.4m / MW IT

The estimate excludes servers and GPUs, land and grid connection.

In the platform You can compare facility construction benchmarks by country with low and high ranges, on one scope per ranking, kept apart from announced project investment.

Open CAPEX benchmarks in the demo

This example illustrates the calculation and is not a market quotation.

Electricity & OPEX

Annual electricity cost

This example shows how changes in the delivered electricity price affect the same facility's annual bill.

The scenario assumes 40 MW IT at 70% average load and a PUE of 1.3.

Annual electricity cost by delivered price, € million per year, for 318,864 MWh
  • 120 €/MWh€38.3m / year
  • 90 €/MWh€28.7m / year
  • 60 €/MWh€19.1m / year

36.4 MW electrical × 8,760 h/year = 318,864 MWh. The estimate covers electricity only. Staff, maintenance, insurance and other operating costs are not included.

In the platform You can compare country electricity price references for planning, see the evidence behind each one and distinguish observed prices from modelled estimates.

This example illustrates the calculation and is not a market quotation.

AI Factory equipment price

This example breaks down the purchase cost of a 128-GPU cluster built from 16 8-GPU servers by component.

€6.1m equipment purchase

AI cluster purchase cost by component, € million
  • Compute (8-GPU servers)€4.8m
  • Network€0.6m
  • Storage€0.4m
  • Racks, power distribution and liquid cooling€0.3m
  • This example assumes €300k per 8-GPU server as a generic figure, not a product quote.
  • The estimate covers equipment purchases only, not cloud rental or GPU-hour pricing.
  • The building that hosts the cluster is costed separately as facility CAPEX.
  • Software, support and installation are not priced here.

In the platform You can estimate the total cost of compute, networking, storage and declared rack or cooling items, with any component still awaiting a quote clearly marked.

Common questions

Before you request access

Does coverage include every site?

No. PowerlandMap covers operating data centers, sites under construction and projects in development that meet our publication criteria. Some projects are not public and detail varies by country, so check each record's sources, stage and verification date before relying on it.

How current are records?

Each record shows the date of its source and when we last verified it. Core European markets follow a rolling 90-day review. The time next to a total shows when the total was calculated, not that every site was checked that day.

Is IT MW the same as electrical or demand MW?

No. IT MW is the power for computing equipment. Electrical MW covers the whole facility, including cooling. Demand MW is a recorded requirement. A published capacity does not mean space or power is available. Definitions are on the methodology page.

When does paid access begin?

Start the 48-hour trial to review the Professional monthly offer and payment terms. Access starts after email confirmation, terms acceptance and card verification on Stripe.

How many seats and what commitment?

Professional costs €790 per month for one named user and has an initial three-month commitment. Team Intelligence costs €2,990 per month for up to five users with a twelve-month commitment. Enterprise starts at €7,500 per month for up to fifteen users with a twelve-month commitment. All prices exclude VAT. Each account is individual and cannot be shared.

Can I export or redistribute data?

A standard subscription covers consultation inside the platform for internal analysis, with short attributed quotations allowed under the Terms. Exports, API feeds, client deliverables or any redistribution need a separate written licence.

Definitions are in the methodology and market detail is on the coverage page. Each Market Study edition has a free research sample.
